Initial STEM Velocity: STEM Calculus Pathway Redesign at Cuyamaca College

In Fall 2023, Cuyamaca College enrolled students with no precalculus experience into STEM Calculus with two-units of corequisite support. These students had twice the success in Calculus in half the time compared to students taking Precalculus. In addition, Calculus pass rates were higher and more equitable across racial demographics than the pass rate for traditional Calculus sections. This short brief outlines the Cuyamaca model, shows their early data, and shares student perspectives.
