Four Themes

This special issue of the CAPacity Gazette focuses on what faculty and administrative leaders are doing at colleges that had especially strong results in the first year of AB 705 implementation. CAP researchers interviewed 63 leaders at 16 California community colleges, focusing especially on colleges where transfer-level completion rates are in the top 25% of the state and where Black and Latinx students are equitably represented in that completion.

Four themes emerged:
1) Shared Clarity About the Need for Change
2) Intentional Course Scheduling and Faculty Hiring
3) Investments in Strong and Equitable Completion
4) Cross-Campus Attention to Implementation Challenges

Each theme is described, with examples from colleges across the system.
