This report analyzes Fall 2022 math class schedules at California’s 115 community colleges after an AB 705 implementation reset by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s office.
The analysis found:
- Large shift toward stronger AB 705 math implementation
- Math offerings better aligned with students’ goals
- Pockets of weak implementation resulting in geographic and racial inequity
- Uneven and inequitable access to effective academic support
AB 705 (Irwin 2017) overhauled placement and remediation practices that were derailing California community college students from achieving their educational goals. In the Getting There series, the California Acceleration Project tracked the changes colleges made to their curricula in response to AB 705 by analyzing class schedules. This report is the fourth report in that series.
